Volunteering at Iowa Donor Network
Iowa Donor Network’s volunteer program is dedicated to educating the community about the importance of organ, tissue and eye donation. It offers donor families, transplant recipients, transplant candidates, living donors and others who have been touched by donation or transplantation the opportunity to contribute to ongoing community outreach efforts in Iowa. Volunteers make a meaningful contribution to IDN’s mission in a variety of ways:
- Public Education and Speaking Engagements: Sharing a personal story is one of the most effective ways to educate the public about the importance of organ and tissue donation. We receive requests for speakers from various groups in the community – driver’s education, civic, healthcare organizations, multicultural, faith-based and many others. Iowa Donor Network provides volunteer orientations, educational workshops and training for all volunteers. There are many ways to get involved to learn about donation, share personal stories and educate the public at community events.
- Tabling Events: Discuss organ and tissue donation with the general public and encourage people to register. Examples include: community health fairs, blood drives, awareness walks and runs, sporting events and hospital events.
- Community Events: Throughout the year we organize and participate in various events which require volunteer support.
- Administrative Support: There are opportunities to assist IDN staff with administrative projects throughout the year.
